He (or She) Put a Ring On It!! Now what...
Hey, y'all! I've been bubbling with excitement to tell the world (and a few of my closest friends in the virtual world): I'm engaged!! He finally put a ring on it!
And I the second I told my friends and family, I was inundated with questions. When’s the wedding? Do you have any themes in mind? How many bridesmaids do you want? Have you thought about dresses?
If I can give you one piece of advice, it’s this: WAIT! Take some time to enjoy being engaged before you delve into the planning process. Trust me, in most cases there’s no need for you to start right away. Give yourself at least a couple weeks to revel in your newly engaged status before you get serious about venues, dates and the like. Here are some things you can do instead:
- Spread the news! Remember to call or visit any VIPs (your parents, siblings, BFF, etc.) before blasting the news out to the world. Then feel free to make your announcement anyway you choose, whether it’s a cutesy Instagram post or formal, mailed announcement.
- Celebrate. You don’t necessarily need to have a formal engagement party this early in the game. Meet some close friends at a nearby bar for a few celebratory drinks or arrange a big family dinner. This is a time to celebrate!
- Spend some quality time with your new fiancé. In the midst of all the excitement from family and friends, it’s important to still spend some one-on-one time with your new fiancé! Be sure to sneak in a date night or simply stay home and watch a movie and order takeout.
- RELAX! Go get a couples massage or take an evening stroll along the beach. You’ve got plenty of time to stress about the wedding later on!
Once you’ve had some time to soak it all in, then feel free to start some conversations with your fiancé about your vision, budget and all the nitty gritty.
